It’s easy to feel cynical about voting in general, let alone the effort to figure out what candidates or ballot initiatives to support. But if this is our number one way to make a difference, then shouldn’t we talk about it more? How do you decide who to vote for and do you talk about it? That’s the focus of today’s episode. And we’re going to start it off by taking a cue from pop star Taylor Swift. And end with who I’m voting for in the November 2018 midterm elections.

[1:40] On October 7, 2018, Taylor Swift made a departure from staying away from politics to diving in head-first.

Here’s the link to her post on Instagram.

She says “Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway.”

[3:30] So, how do you research the candidates and issues?

First, don’t think you need to or even can figure it all out by yourself. Rely on organizations that you trust who are doing the research for you.

Search for “voters guide” + the issues you care about.

Using some guides that are national and some are just for Colorado…

You can dig in to the details, but you don’t have to. They’ve already done the work for you.
