Irene Nagudi is a gardener and conservation educator and founder of Kichini Gardeners Initiative, a registered non-profit organization in Uganda using sustainable gardening to connect young people to nature conservation and civic engagement. Working along with young people especially children in soils makes me feel alive.
We want to learn and conserve our soils and species for the generations of today and tomorrow. Considering that few children are involved in topics of conservation, we believe in giving them a practical skill and leadership which would aid them in class and also build ambassadors who will teach the rest about conservation of species and soils, value of togetherness through gardens as they transition into adulthood.
As an environmental scientist, Irene is involved in education and awareness about sustainable practices like plastics waste management, clean water advocacy and climate change through campaigns, petitions, school outreach.
She is a business instructor with Work For Life in groups of young people and women, to start businesses and sustain them.
She is a Peace Ambassador and educator, under Extremely Together Uganda chapter - Kofi Annan Foundation. Every young person should be part of the solution to break bias in community.
She is a mentor to out-of-school adolescent girls, in slum settings to think and act positively as they transition into adulthood.
